We are delighted to share the exciting news of our recent win at the Deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards, an event celebrating the very best of Yorkshire’s food and drink, in the Best Sustainable Product category for our organic milk.
Here at Acorn Dairy, we take immense pride in being a food producer rooted in our local community, and this win shines a light on the sustainability of our direct to consumer, organic dairy farming model.
The Deliciouslyorkshire awards are a prestigious recognition of excellence in the Yorkshire food and drink industry. The entries in the Best Sustainable Product category were meticulously judged by experts from the University of York School for Business and Society and FixOurFood to determine the shortlist. These shortlisted products were then tasted by the judging panel, and the scores were combined to determine the overall winners. The competition was fierce, with numerous high-quality entries covering various categories.
What makes this win even more special is the commitment to sustainability that runs deep in the Yorkshire food sector.
The judges were impressed by the groundbreaking work taking place in the region to reduce chemical inputs, increase the use of renewable energy, promote biodiversity and water quality, enhance soil health and reduce emissions, and our win is a shining example of these efforts, as our products are not only good for human and planetary health but also a delight for the taste buds.
We firmly believe that prevention is better than cure when it comes to cow, human and soil health. Producing good food, well, and restoring biodiversity and soil carbon naturally as we go.
And our commitment to sustainability goes back some decades. Since 1998 the land farmed organically, due to Acorn Dairy’s activities, has more than tripled. In 2021, we were honoured to receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, acknowledging our environmentally friendly practices. For example, building important soil carbon and biodiversity naturally via clovers and composted cow manure, using our own green energy from an on-farm wind turbine and bottling all our milk in our own plant to reduce food miles.
We are ever mindful that this significant recognition for our organic milk would not be possible without the continued market demand and support from our wonderful catering and family doorstep customers who want the best, sustainable products.
We would also like to congratulate one of our customers, the team at Shepherd’s Purse cheese, who were also recognised at the Deliciouslyorkshire awards. Our doorstep customers can order the brand’s delicious Organic Yorkshire Blue for Christmas – though be warned, there is limited supply, and you may not be able to resist opening before Christmas!
This collaboration with Shepherd’s Purse is a testament to the strength of partnerships in our region and we are proud to work with them.
