Situated in the heart of Darlington, in the covered market, The Waterhouse Kitchen is a lovely spot to watch the world go by. The café offers a range of tasty, homecooked meals and is steeped in history thanks to its origins in the market.

How long have you been open?

Since March 2013.

 

What is your favourite thing about running a small business?

Meeting the customers, coaxing them to try new things and getting positive feedback regarding our food and drinks.

 

What does quality mean to you?

Everything – quality ingredients make quality food and satisfaction in the finished product.

 

What is your favourite way to enjoy milk?

In porridge with homemade rhubarb and ginger jam.

 

Describe your business in three words.

Friendly, family-run, homecooked.

 

What is your best-selling dish?

Full English.

 

What’s your favourite coffee accompaniment?

Fruit scone with jam.

 

What is your favourite breakfast item?

Poached eggs on toast.

 

What is the best sandwich filling?

Tuna and cucumber.
